In India, there has been much progress in equal rights. The Kumbh Mela festival starts on January 25th and will last until March 4th. This festival is one of the biggest Hindu events and often said to be one of the worlds largest religious gatherings. This event has taken place every couple years for centuries, and four different cities take turns hosting. Hindus believe that during this event, if one takes a dip in the holy river nearby, their sins will be washed away. This helps them gain salvation. In the days leading up to the Kumbh Mela, people arriving for the festival will seek blessings from sadhus. This past Sunday these sadhus were all transgender. The fact that people were seeking blessings from transgender people shows how progressive the area has been. This when combined with the fact that India only began to recognize transgender people in 2014 shows how quickly the country is modernizing. This is proof of the rise of India, possibly resulting in the creation of a new global power. I believe that in the near future, with the current rate of advancement in India, there will possibly also be the creation of a new realm.
The rapid advancement and modernization has caused a construction boom in India. Over the past few years, India has started to see more and more migrant workers from villages moving to cities look for city jobs, Most of these city jobs are in the construction sector. Therefore, the construction sector comprised of mostly unorganised labour, is one of India’s biggest job providers. However, with this rapid advancement and construction boom comes a cost. The construction workers carrying India’s business at this point in time are not taken care of by employers. This is due to the surplus of unemployed people. There are very little safety precautions set for the workers who form the backbone of India’s business. This can be seen as another sign of India becoming a stronger and global power, as many countries have gone through the similar stage of industrialization. I believe that in the next decade or so many safety standards will be set, bringing India closer to the U.S. in terms of business.
