This week my article was on the ongoing peacemaking between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the U.S. There has been a constant ongoing war between the U.S. and Afghanistan over in Afghanistan. This has been the longest war the U.S. has ever been involved in. It has been going on for over 17 years with more than 2,400 soldiers lost. But, the fact that these countries are even talking, let alone meeting on another, is hard to believable. The U.S. has not had the best past with Pakistan or Afghanistan. Since I can remember, we have always had troops in these two countries because they have always been troubled and a threat to the U.S. Afghanistan is also home to major terrorist groups like the Taliban, who bombed the Twin Towers. The country’s officials have had plans to meet and discuss talks about Afghan peace. However, none of the officials that plan to meet have officially confirmed these meetings or any future ones. The U.S. specifically has to be very careful with their negotiations. Currently, the terrorist group, the Taliban, in Afghanistan is more powerful than it was back in 2001 when they bombed the Twin Towers. They control over half of Afghanistan. The U.S. has to strategically think out their plans to try and form peace between these countries, because if not the U.S. could suffer greatly. There are still over 14,000 troops in Afghanistan alone, therefore if there were to be some conflict, the troops would be in jeopardy. Afghanistan has stated that they want a proportion of the U.S. troops removed from Afghanistan. So what will happen if we completely remove our troops from that region of the world? Will everything be peaceful, or will there be even more conflict and more threats than before? Even though It doesn’t look like it, the U.S. has made a lot of progress with the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They have even planned more meetings, coming later this month, to hopefully help restore and grow the peace between these countries.
