Nepal students hold a protest against construction in Humla, outside of the chinese embassy in Kathmandu. Nepali congress went ahead and said that there was no encroachment of China onto Nepali land, before the field report was released. The ministry of foreign affairs also denied any encroachment by China, despite locals in Humla claiming otherwise.
These events tie directly to the topic of sovereignty, specifically related to land, because the locals claim that their land is being encroached upon/stolen by China, and say that China has no right to do so. If this is the case, then they would be right, and China should not be on their land, the problem is that the Nepali government has dismissed the locals’ complaints and allowed them (China) to continue construction in that region. Because of this, China is in no way obligated to address the problem of encroachment or the protestors at all.
Effects on the global sphere: personally, I believe that the Nepal government not releasing the field report and saying that there was no encroachment is at least to say, sketchy. This action taken by them implies that they are working with the Chinese government to get them that land, even if it means harm to their own people, which is definitely not a good sign.
