As the Corona Virus continues to rage on across the globe, people are in need of more and more assistance in dealing with the deadly disease. Covid is now more than 40% of all health insurance claim in India. In May, it was 8%, in July is was 23%, and in August, it was 34%. The steady increase in claims is not only frightening for the industry but also those in need of actual health care. Analysts say that rising Covid claims could put more pressure on insurers, which in turn raises costs the costs of general health care. Some other scary information is that the amount of care needed for Covid patients has gone up, therefore increasing the amount of money needed to be spent on equipment. However, it all inst bad news. The cost for a patient to get Covid care has actually gone down, thanks to intensive efforts from the government. The biggest factor to this change in price is the time spent in the hospital. In April, patients spent close to 30 days with Covid in the hospital, now it is closer to 15 days. By improving the efficiency of getting patients in and out, they have been able to lower costs.

I believe that this is going to be the peak of Covid not only in India, but all over the world. I think that we are getting to a point where there is enough criteria to return to normalcy: many people have had it and are immune now, we are much better at taking the proper precautions to prevent spreading it, and generally people are no longer that afraid of the virus.

Going forward, I believe the next steps are to continue to improve efficiency with dealing with the virus. Yes, Covid should be taken seriously and not blown off, but, it also really is not something that should dictate our lives. In order to get the world moving again, we need to be conscious, not afraid. I think its a great sign that even though the number of Covid claims are going up, India’s government is taking steps to make it easier to get treatment for it. I believe that is the only, and best way to return to normalcy. Much like how I discussed in my past post, we aren’t going to immediately return to normalcy. We first must take small baby steps, in the right direction.

In class, we talked about different trends of world players. How is used to be the UK, then it was Russia and the U.S, and now its just the U.S. I wonder if eventually there will be a duo where India is a world power. Every time I read about them it always seems like their government is acting fast and properly. Maybe, after Covid breaks through, India will have something to make them a bigger world player. And maybe eventually they could even get to become a world power.
