After November 3rd following a public meeting Egypt had with foreign ambassadors, three staff members of a leading human rights organization were released. They were arrested on charges of “joining a terror group” and “spreading false news” because of their work researching human rights in Egypt and their living conditions. The United Nations had even urged them to released the prisonersFor years, President Abdel Fattah. el Sisi’s has been trying to silence any opposing ideals against the country and their government and independent organizations via arrests and other forms of intimidation. There is an estimate of around 60,000 detainees in Egypt which include but are not limited to political prisoners, activists, journalists, lawyers, etc. After the multiple arrests started to grow global disapproval, including some of Egypt’s allies like Germany and France, Egypt approved of a law that would regulate the work of civil organizations.

In more and more countries where they try to silence out any opposers, they often lead to rising arrests of people like activists and journalists. It has now become quite common for domestic and foreign journalists and right wings to get arrested in the country they are trying to cover because the government does not want them spreading the news that they have covered. If Egypt had be pushed to the edge by the UN and allying countries to release the three prisoners, i’d imagine they would still be in there now. Egpyt in their own would not decide to release them but once they started to get pressure from other countries, they knew the odds were against them. Especially because their allies looked down upon their decision to arrest the staff members, Egypt had almost no choice but to release them because it had now concerned their allies which they can not afford to loose.

Because of the rise of globalization throughout the world, taking away people’s freedom of speech is now looked down upon and should not be taken away from them. Freedom of speech is seen as a human right and when a human right is violated, people all throughout the world will see and would later oppose that country. Globalization has now taken a big toll on countries that oppose certain human rights and who lean less democratic.
