India is currently accusing Pakistan over the death of an Indian fisherman. This event happened last weekend on Saturday. This took place on a boat called “Jalpari” in the waters near Gujarat. The reports stated that there were 7 men on the boat when Pakistani maritime forces shot at the boat killing one and injuring another. India is now after hearing this report come in accusing Pakistan navy commandos of the shooting and killing. The Indian government has not taken this lightly but has said publicly that they will deal with this issue Diplomatically. Pakistan in response has summoned theri Senior Paki diplomat to talks with India. The PSMA or Pakistan Maritime Security Agency has claimed no knowledge of the incident. Pakistan has told its forces to “instruct its forces to refrain from such acts of unprovoked firing”.

My take on this article is this is one of many small disputes that has happened in this disputed region. With a long colored background between these two countries. This is one of many to come. This comes right after border disputes over its Kashmir border and others in the surrounding area. With the recent talks to end the small arms race they had recently, this is a worrying addition to a possible war with each of them possessing weapons of mass destruction and large armed forces.

This topic relates to class with the idea of power. Power; Not to influence itself, rather the potential or capability to influence others to ensure security. India uses this definition of power with its stockpile of nukes, large economical output/future, and large standing army and population. They use these influences to ensure their safety and safeguard against war with Pakistan and other enemies. The issue comes in with the security dilemma where in India’s arming their people and having a nuclear stockpile might ensure security for them it ultimately threatens other nations like Pakistan. So a rational state like Pakistan will feel threatened so they arm themselves which leads to an arms race or a tit for tat situation. The problem is in a realist perspective all nations are trying to achieve this power for survival and security but ends of making the world less safe.
