Connectivity with the Central Asian countries has recently become a priority for India. India’s foreign policy had been constantly evolving since Independence and India’s emergence as one of the major economies had shaped key global negotiations. In recent times, “Neighbourhood First” was a key pillar of Indian foreign policy. The President said, “The focus of our ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy is to enhance connectivity, augment trade and investment, and build a secure and stable neighbourhood.”. While Indo-Pacific was a recent addition to the geopolitical lexicon, he said India’s engagement with Indo-Pacific region has dated back several centuries.
I find this article to be important because it shows the new emerging industries these 2 regions want to incorporate. This will lead to stronger ties between the regions and it seems like President Kovind is keen on developing stronger relationships with Central Asian countries. Lasting impacts may include stronger economies, less military conflict, and new industries.President Kovind said that Turkmenistan today has managed to carve out a special niche in international relations with the principle of ‘permanent neutrality’. The five concepts include ensuring peace and security, promoting neutrality, diversifying economic relations, promoting social development and humanization of international relations which is the act to secure a prosperous future for the country and the region.
This article relates to international relations because these 2 regions have been negotiating and creating policy for thousands of years. It started as early as the 3rd century BC. India has enjoyed historical and civilizational linkages with Central Asia through the Silk Route. When the sea route from Europe to India was discovered. The Silk route connected the two regions not only for transportation of goods like silk, textiles, spices etc. From early trade routes to today sophisticated and emerging supply chains. The regions have relied on eachother for thousand of years and probably will continue for another thousand.
