On wednesday May 18, 2022 more than half a million people in India had to flee their homes due to the flooding of the Brahmaputra. The banks of Assam bursted with water causing citizens of India to have to leave their homes. The flooding of villages in this region has spanned over three days. The Indian military has also had to help rescue more than two thousand people who have been trapped in their homes due to the flooding. This has led India into a two front battle with the weather with places like New Deli suffering from a heat wave and the Assam region suffering from floods.
This is important because of how it is putting India in a tough spot. With people in the western part of India suffering from profuse rain and floods and the people of the main body of India suffering from heat waves and droughts. It leaves India with a two front war on the weather spending tons of money to help its people with power outages and food scarcity in some parts. Then they also have to find a place to relocate half a million people while sections of India are flooded. This puts India in a tough spot where they are going to have to spend tons of money to stop problems that have risen up due to these weather issues.
This relates back to our class because it’s a ton of Indian citizens that are getting displaced due to the flooding of the Brahmaputra river. This will cause the Indian government to spend a lot of money on helping their citizens in these trying times. We talk about how India is going to be an up and coming power in the world. With them being a rising power they need to be focusing on spending money on infrastructure and their military. With them having to spend their money on helping citizens it is only pushing them in the opposite direction for right now.
