Iran’s foreign ministry rejected reports of the willingness to compromise its stance on negotiations with the United States to restore the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. Foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had made no mention of any sort of compromise to Qatar’s emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani after a meeting in Tehran. Khamenei told the emir “we have always said the negotiations must yield results, not waste time”. However, Khatibzadeh suggested that a mistranslation of his comments may have occurred. The talks to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action have stalled since March due to the fact that both sides have failed to agree on a number of issues, including a terror designation against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Before reading this article, I wasn’t familiar with Iran’s part in the nuclear deals. After reading this, I began to look into the different nuclear deals around the world and not just in Iran. Another related thing I read about was that there was an EU envoy visit to discuss the nuclear deals as well. In my opinion, I think it is important that the leaders talk it out and make it clear what their intentions are for the nuclear deals since apparently they got lost in translation. If that part is true, then it is critical that they clear it up. Another thing that is important is that the US gets involved as well since Khatibzadeh mentioned that ‘the ball is in their court’.

This relates to class because it relates to the nuclear deals throughout the world which is something I believed we have discussed before. It also mentions many different leaders of states and nations worldwide. Also, it deals with the relations between countries and discusses how they interact with each other when it comes to dealing with nuclear power. All in all I think this was a great article and it taught me a lot.
