“Prime Minister Modi has a similar program called Make in India. We are also prepared to set up a manufacturing base in India… The Indian prime minister and government have been creating stable conditions because the leadership is committed to an ‘India first’ policy, and we believe that investments in India are profitable… I know that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, a similar policy is being implemented in India. Everyone is well aware of his call: ‘Make in India.’ We, for our part, are also ready to establish certain production facilities in India… The fact that the prime minister of India and the government are creating such reliable and stable conditions is largely due to the Indian leadership’s nationally focused policy across all areas, including the economy… we consider investments in India to be stable and highly profitable.” Putin stated.
This is important because it shows how India and Russia are working to further strengthen their relations in terms of economic policies and manufacturing deals. This is also important because it shows that India and Russia are continuing to maintain close ties after their 50 billion dollar trade deal that I wrote about earlier. I believe that these very strong ties between Russia and India will be very helpful to both of their economies, and I think it’s interesting how the United States and its western allies are fine with their close ally, India, doing so much trade with a country that is practically seen as an enemy.
This relates to what we learned in class because it shows how some countries are turning away from globalism just like how the United States is initiating the America first ideology under President Donald Trump. India is putting its own interests first and beginning to manufacture more in India, with the help of Russian investments.
