A terrorist group in Pakistan called the BLA, The Baloch Liberation Army, had attacked a train that was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. 400 passengers were on the train, but 100 managed to escape. They had described their experience as terrible and they continue to worry about the others that are on the train that are being held hostage. The group has been longing for their independence attacking innocent citizens, police men, highways, and more. They are saying that there will be severe consequences if anyone comes to rescue them. They have not stated anything about demands or an ultimatum of some sort.
My personal opinion is that I’m not really surprised. I know that there are terrorist groups all over the world and I am not exactly sure how they are planning to reach their goal by taking hostages. But who knows, FARC caused all sorts of chaos and they gained an agreement and got a political party in their name. I know that it is still happening today so many things are unknown and no one knows what is going to happen next but I do think that the hostages are in serious trouble and they are very likely to die.
The 100 people that were able to leave are most likely still in shock. Also who knows, they probably had to leave family and loved ones behind, hearing about this. I can’t imagine how overwhelming this must be for them. Either way the whole situation is terrible and I’m actually expecting the unexpected when it comes to this situation. But I don’t think the government will leave this as it is and not say anything.
This relates because we have been talking about Terrorists groups, I actually did my midterm on the Medellin and Cali Cartel and I did somewhat read about FARC. But overall it’s been super interesting and it’s a rabbit hole that I actually would love to dive deep down into. Medellin was also something we talked about in class, not that they are a terrorist group, they were an insurgency but FARC did tend to work with Medellin and the cali cartel.
