Unfortunately, these past couple of weeks have been more tumultuous than usual, and that’s saying something. The Kabul hospital attack was genius in an atrocious way. Hospitals are seen as a sanctuary. A place that’s usually left relatively untouched in conflict/war. Attacking a hospital, however, provides the greatest opportunity to succeed in the terrorist’s goal. Security forces aren’t able to execute the necessary procedures to bring the offender down due to the safety concerns for residing patients. Nevertheless, it seems as if Afghan forces are becoming overwhelmed from Taliban assaults, even if the Taliban has yet to claim this specific attack. This horrendous bombing must create a chilling aura in Kabul. If hospitals aren’t safe from danger, what is?
In addition to Afghanistan’s seemingly constant and unrelenting terror, Pakistan has seen light to two suicide bombers, the latest incident in a new surge of Islamic violence. What’s interesting is the location of the bombing – a court. If I were a terrorist, the ideal place to spread terror and maximize potential deaths would be out in public. A court doesn’t provide me with those conditions as I would be unsure of the people inside and theres more security at a court rather than, say, a shopping center. The location of this attack, claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, is puzzling, and leaves me wondering if their goal was to prevent something form happening inside the court rather than just blow themselves up for the heck of it.
