Indirect nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran resumed in Geneva under the shadow of President Trump’s threat of military action if no agreement is reached. The negotiations, mediated by Oman, follow heightened tensions, including U.S. participation in Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025. Iran described the latest discussions as “serious” and “more constructive” than prior rounds, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying both sides agreed on guiding principles and will begin drafting a potential deal. No timeline has been set for the next meeting.
The U.S. delegation, led by Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, is expected to push for limits on Iran’s uranium enrichment, reductions to its enriched stockpile, and stricter international monitoring. Israel has urged Washington to also address Iran’s ballistic missile program and regional proxy funding. Tehran, facing severe economic strain from U.S. sanctions reimposed after Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear accord, seeks sanctions relief but insists it will not surrender its right to civilian uranium enrichment. Both sides signaled cautious optimism, though significant disagreements remain.
I think that this issue and these ongoing talks in Geneva are going to be a long and tough road before any real progress is made towards any agreement or negotiation. I think that it is good to start making a path towards a potential deal but I think that it is not going to have a large payout in the more recent future and could cause more conflict between the US and Iran and worsen their relations with one another. The article references that compared to previous discussions this one was more constructive and open to ideas which is helping guide and establish a path for the future between these two countries.
I believe Irene will have difficulty agreeing with the US in negotiations and terms as they don’t want to give up any sort of power in the region. I think the US does not want to worsen relations with Iran but at this point if anything goes wrong they’re not afraid to step in. Hopefully, the US can have productive talks that better the US interests and decrease Iran’s threat and power in the region and the world. Sides will have to continue to compromise and work together to bring any type of deal or negotiations.
This issue is connected to national Security as I ran poses a big threat because other power in the region and their access to nuclear weapons Possessions which the US previously addressed period it is also connected to the stability of the Middle East and southern Asia as I ran is a large and Powerful country that has ties to various terrorist groups like Hezbollah and pose is a major threat in the region. This possible deal would help benefit the US interests, but if backfires the US is relations with Iran will worsen
