Donald Trump has sent 3,000+ troops into Afghanistan to continue fighting the Taliban even though American combat against the Taliban “officially stopped” in 2014. The United States still has around 8,000+ special forces in Afghanistan and with the news of more soldiers coming, the Taliban have responded. They claimed that if America sent more troops in, that Afghanistan would become a graveyard for their superpower. But the Taliban aren’t wrong about making Afghanistan a graveyard. I mean, they’ve made their point pretty clear in the past that they will use any means necessary the get their point across and no matter what military comes in to try to stop them, they can’t. Because the Taliban isn’t just one little group putting up a fight. They’re an idea. And you can’t just bomb that or run it over with a tank and call it a victory. The United States has been fighting the violence in Afghanistan for about 16 years and we still haven’t been able to send our troops home with a big smile on winning the war. And even if sending in more troops does some good, it’ll only be temporary because at some point the violence will start up again whether it be a lesser or greater amount. A senior Taliban commander said, “For generations, we have fought this war, we are not scared, we are fresh, and we will continue this war until our last breath.” I hope the violence ends eventually but it’s pretty hard to kill something that lives in people’s minds and thoughts.
