Trump vows to bring all Afghan troops home by the end of the year, contrasting the earlier statement made my him and other officials claiming that the number of troops would decrease to around four to five thousand and continue lowering depending on the current climate of the country. This claim, made on Donald Trump’s twitter account, may have negative effects on the small leverage Afghanistan government has in the current talks with the Taliban. The Taliban praised the tweet, as a movement for the US to fulfill their side of the deal. If the tweet is an empty promise, similar to Trump’s previous surprise claim of pulling troops out of Syria two years ago, it could have unwanted repercussions. The entire situation instilling confusion in the National Security Council, State Department, and the Pentagon; with many believing that it is a desperate attempt to affect the polls. I think that this is great concern considering the past climate in regards to The Taliban and US involvement in Afghanistan. For roughly twenty-five years, the terrorist group NGO, the Taliban has raged war throughout Afghanistan. If Trump’s tweet causes disastrous effects, the US may be pressured into reducing its involvement in the Middle East, by Global Actors such as the United Nations. With little Afghan leverage, additional US implication into the struggle may be aggravating to the Afghanistan government and other Global Actors and countries also assisting in the attempted cease of Taliban power. Rash actions from the US president, acting on the desire to further his votes for the Nov. 3rd election, will have effects lasting much longer than election day. <\/strong> Officials expect that no real move will be made to solidify Trump’s promise. These statements have real potential to affect current US domestic affairs in addition to international ones.
