The explosion went off outside of an administration building which also housed some military functionality in the Ghani Keli district of the Nangarhar Province. After the bomb was detonated, security gunned down armed attackers who attempted to enter the building after the attack.

The casualties were mostly Afghan security members, although there were a few civilians caught in the crossfire. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban is being blamed by the Khan, because they have been gaining in activity in that region.

In the global sphere, I don’t think that anyone will be likely to get involved unless someone officially claims responsibility, but I agree that the Taliban is suspect. If they do, this may embolden other countries, specifically America, who have a reputation for anti-terrorism efforts, to take action to help expell the Taliban. What the Taliban want, and they have already succeeded with, is to create fear of them within Afghanistan. Their message to the Afghan people is ‘I am here’ and ‘I have power over you.’ This power play of targeting the government building was a bold move, but because of their plan not being completely successful, the perpetrators didn’t make it inside the building, the Taliban may be reluctant to admit responsibility for a failed mission, although the psychological torment of the attack will remain no matter what.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/south-asia/at-least-15-killed-in-east-afghanistan-car-bomb-attack/articleshow/78461834.cms After a car bomb attack targeted at a government building in east Afghanistan, 15 are dead, and more than 30 wounded.
