That meaning the use of “forced confessions”, solitary confinement, illegal police detentions, and other violations of defendants’ rights. This act is in response to constant triticism from western countries, questioning Raisi ( a high ranking Iran leader) on if he will actually follow through on his concerns of torture in his country. There has been multitude of cases of torture. In a speech, Rasai called for these people to face consequences and he also apologized for their ” mistakes”. He describes the acts as violations of civil rights, and should not be further allowed. This Wednesday, Ali Reza Heydarabadipour, former head of Sarmayeh bank, was captured and put to jail for extracting and killing thousands of school teachers.

I found this article to be extremely fascinating. I think that its a great thing that problems like this are kind of being addressed. Obviously, the leader doesn’t take the torture taking place in his country too seriously because he described it has people making ” mistakes”. I believe that the UN and western nations should continue to put pressure on countries like Iran to reform and fix many problems with their judicial and government systems. If there is a simple way we can help innocent people from being tortured, then we should do it. With the approach of low risk and high reward, I think that we can continue to get involved in non personnel operations like this one.

In class, we have been talking about how other countries influence each other through indirect actions. I think that this article is a prime example. When the article says “pressure” it doesn’t mean that they are just getting mean emails. It means that countries are threatening to hurt/ damage Iran in one way or another. It is through that method, that countries can influence each other even though they don’t get along.

Yesterday, authority in Iran banned ‘torture’ in their country.
