{"id":4409,"date":"2021-02-01T19:40:48","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T19:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baileyonlineclassroom.com\/southandcentralasiablog\/?p=4409"},"modified":"2021-02-01T19:40:48","modified_gmt":"2021-02-01T19:40:48","slug":"china-arrests-more-than-80-people-in-fake-vaccine-ring-crackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baileyonlineclassroom.com\/southandcentralasiablog\/2021\/02\/01\/china-arrests-more-than-80-people-in-fake-vaccine-ring-crackdown\/","title":{"rendered":"China arrests more than 80 people in &#8216;fake vaccine&#8217; ring crackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Link to article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/01\/asia\/china-fake-covid-vaccines-intl\/index.html\">https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/01\/asia\/china-fake-covid-vaccines-intl\/index.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China announced today that it has arrested more than 80 people who have sold over 3,000 fake Covid-19 vaccines in China since September 2020 in the areas of Jiangsu, Beijing and Shandong.&nbsp; China\u2019s Ministry of Public Security found that those involved in the fake vaccinations have been selling saline solution to unsuspecting customers.&nbsp; The companies who have been handling the official vaccinations for China, Sinovac and Sinopharm both had claimed that their vaccinations were more than 78% effective, however recent research shows that the Sinovac vaccine is only 50.38% effective.&nbsp; Sinopharm, is a state-owned company, stands firm with it\u2019s 79.34% effective rating.&nbsp; It was the first vaccine approved for use in China.&nbsp; Both Sinovac and Sinopharm have been selling its vaccines to other countries including Turkey and Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a lot of very important issues in this article.&nbsp; First and foremost is the possibility of fake vaccinations being given to the general public.&nbsp; What the criminals did to produce the fake vaccine was simple enough that it could easily happen anywhere in the world.&nbsp; The vaccinations are so rare, and people are growing tired of the pandemic that bottles in the United States could easily be switched and sold to buyers.&nbsp; It makes me wonder if we need to have the vaccinations under lock and key with heavy security.&nbsp; The morals surrounding who gets the vaccination and when could possibly make someone go to extremes to receive their doses earlier.&nbsp; The second concern is the effectiveness of the vaccinations being given in China and around the world.&nbsp; If other countries are not purchasing and distributing effective vaccinations will the vaccinations actually stop the pandemic? We are lucky in the United States to have checks and balances to make sure that vaccinations are safe and effective. Without global checks and balances on the same vaccinations we could all be in for a long haul with Covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This relates to class with our discussion of the global pandemic and applies directly to class as when will we be able to meet face to face in school again.&nbsp; The world working together to stop the spread of Covid is good.&nbsp; However, if other countries find that they are being sold vaccinations that are not as effective as they were told they would be it could turn ugly.
