General Bajwa stressed that India needs to create a “conducive environment” and called on the United States to play a role in ending the ongoing regional conflicts. Both Pakistan and India have nuclear arms and have fought each other in three wars over a border war in Kashmir. A ceasefire started on February 25th with an agreement from both sides. Hopefully an agreement would open up trade to the rest of the world. The United States has welcomed the ceasefire. General Bajwa hopes that the Biden Administration will help facilitate the peace in the region.

This is a wonderful event for the world and the region. Whenever two nuclear armed countries decided to end a decades long war it is good for all mankind. It would be much better for the two countries to find a way to work out their border dispute and settle the conflict especially now with the pandemic raging in the region. The focus needs to be on the people and stopping the spread of Covid. It would be great for the United States to help end the conflict, but currently Joe Biden has a lot on his plate and I’m not sure if he can handle more.

Kashmir has been an issue for generations. The longstanding war has held the citizens of the region hostage as the border constantly changes. The fear of war has worn on the people. Meanwhile Covid continues to ravage the area. The area needs economic growth so that the citizens can care for themselves. Inviting the United States to the table to help work out the peace agreement would be helpful as well. It would also make sure that the nuclear weapons would be controlled and not allowed to slip into the wrong hands.

Link to article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-pakistan-india/pakistan-army-chief-says-ready-to-bury-hatchet-with-india-for-peace-idUSKBN2BA1S9 Pakistani General Qamar Javed Bajwa has called for India and Pakistan to move forward and “bury the past” with a joint ceasefire between the military of the two countries.
