Medvedev has written that he believes there is a migration crisis in Central Asia that other global powers need to help address. He also alleged that the US and it’s allies have abandoned Afghan refugees. Russia will supply Tajikistan, a country bordering Afghanistan, with military equipment and supplies. Russia has plans to continue to secure the border and claims to ensure security in its own and all the other allied countries in the CTSO.

Analysis: I believe that while I think that while addressing the migration crisis in Central Asia is important, commenting on the US, could potentially just cause more conflict. I don’t believe that Medvedev’s comments on the US were necessary or beneficial from an international relations standpoint. I think that it is very important that Russia is supplying military equipment and aid to bordering countries of Afghanistan. It is crucial for powerful countries to be supplying resources and money to Central Asia with the Taliban crisis going on. It also sets an example for other large powers to be following in their lead.

How does this relate to IR: This situation contains a lot of international conflict between several countries. It adds a lot to the discussion of how countries maintain order, as Russia puts in resources to secure the restoration of order. I believe that this has a lot of international security aspects and international law aspects as well. As central Asia defends itself against the looming threat of Afghanistan’s Taliban, they face a serious migration crisis and this is really important to address when it comes to international relations.

Link to article: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/dmitry-medvedev-warns-of-spread-of-terrorists-radicals-refugees-to-central-asia-from-afghanistan/articleshow/86156946.cms Summary: Former president and deputy chairman of the Russia security council, Dmitry Medvedev has alleged that terrorists have lined up at Afghanistan’s borders, causing a security threat to bordering central Asian countries.
