Pakistani troops quickly stomped out the attack and killed 9 attackers, but 3 grounded aircraft and a fuel tanker were damaged in the attack. This is not the first attack of these kinds in recent times; violence in Pakistan is rising due to groups that are linked to the Afghan Taliban. August had the highest number of armed attacks reported in the country since November of 2014, with 99 separate attacks. The country is reeling from economic and political crises, so there is a decline in law and order.

Analysis – This rise in violence and criminal activity in Pakistan could be bad for the security of the country. In an area where there is already war and fighting around them, having internal problems right now is very inconvenient. Not to say that Palestine and Israel or any other country is looking to take advantage of weaker countries and conquer, but at a time like this you would like to have a sense of security. 99 armed attacks in one month is around 3-4 armed attacks a day. It’s more than possible to deal with those, and they have, but if you are being attacked by another country or in a war or have anything else that needs more attention, these attacks could be more than detrimental to your country and it’s security. Getting these attacks and internal problems under control may not be Pakistan’s main focus right now with their delayed election and economic problems, but they need to find a way to stomp some of these attacks out before they start to multiply.

Connection to class – This relates to the idea of a security dilemma that we talked about in class. To stop these attacks and to maximize national security Pakistan will likely bulk up their military in some way, which may bring concern to the surrounding countries. Preparing to fight anybody, be it internal or external, is reason for concern from other countries because they do not know your plans. You could be buffing your military to fight your own internal problems or that could be to attack a surrounding country. So in this situation it’s hard to know what’s best, buffing up your military and raising concern, or enduring the current attacks with what you already have.

Link to the article – https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/11/4/pakistan-kills-three-militants-foiling-attack-on-airbase Summary – A group of fighters from a newly founded group called Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan attacked a Pakistani air force training base in central Pakistan’s Mianwali.
