His first day he addressed the Indian diaspora population in the US. This was a conference aimed to present him as an ethnic leader in the US. His second day he was talked with leaders from Japan, Australia, and the United States. The main focus of these discussions was defense in the Indian and Pacific oceans due to China’s aggression in this area of the world. This comes right before the BRICS summit which will include China directly.

This helps highlight an ongoing push by India to become one of the most important states in this transition era from American hegemony. It has begun to take steps to force international organizations and alliances to deal with it on their own terms as a large partner in the BRICS organization and their relatively comfortable position with most if not all western allies. Ever since their independence the government has tried to distance itself from India’s painful colonial past and now they have pushed way past and now are a leader in some respects of modernization and technologies even with a large amount of its country still in ongoing modernization.

America’s response is mostly positive as they are hard set on getting in bed with India and denying the Russian’s of their second largest oil consumer and also keeping a large ally in the Indian ocean and on the boarder with China. Meanwhile India has used this opportunity to talk yet still is going to the BRICS summit. They are not wanting to bow to the US or even full align themselves with them due to their reliance on Russian oil and not burning more bridges with the Chinese.

This connects to class in the aspect that you can assume that all countries will only work in their own self interests. This meeting and the continuing effects of it are the textbook definition of the Governments responsibility to its people and how it affects their foreign policies.

Article Link The Prime Minister’s visit reinforced the neutrality of India in the realm of international relations.
