The U.N. children’s agency on Monday warned that the health of 11 million children there was at risk.

I think that this article is important because it shows how much of a problem that pollution is in the lesser developed countries around the world and how it causes a major health crisis for the people who are living there. In addition, this shows how the U.N. also plays a role in overseeing the safety of the global population in these kinds of emergencies. One other thing that I thought was important to the story, but was not in the article is that the cause of this air pollution problem in Pakistan was most likely is due to India’s poor anti-pollution policies, which allowed the air quality to get bad in India, and is now affecting Eastern Pakistan.

This event relates to what we learned in class because the U.N. is stepping in to ensure the safety of the people living in the Punjab province that are affected by the smog. This shows how intergovernmental organizations can have an impact on affairs around the world and can help regulate things to maintain the safety of societies in other countries. It also shows the extent to which bad policies in some countries affect other neighboring countries that had little to do with the original problem, but still they have to deal with the impact.

Link to article: https://apnews.com/article/pakistan-smog-mobile-clinics-punjab-219608bdb72e4a62ff6ca7fca52e964d According to Pakistani health officials, 1.8 million people have been sickened by the worsening air pollution in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province. “Over 1.8 million people visited hospitals and private clinics in the smog-hit districts in Punjab in the past 30 days, and most of them had been suffering from respiratory-related diseases and burning of eyes,” said… Read more »

[1

post-5997","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-analysis-post
["GET
