The conflict has caused major travel chaos, including flight cancellations and closed airspace across much of the Middle East due to missile and drone threats. Major airline routes between Asia and Europe have been affected, causing higher flight prices and delays in cargo shipments such as food and aircraft parts. The conflict is also disrupting critical trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz, which is essential for global oil and raw material transportation. This has caused increases in energy prices and shortages of important materials like aluminum, sulfur, and helium used in manufacturing and semiconductor production. Industries ranging from airlines and tourism to luxury goods, fashion, and technology are being affected. Banks and major companies have also taken precautions by closing offices or shifting employees to remote work. Overall, the war is creating widespread economic uncertainty and disrupting global supply chains.

This article emphasizes how wars can create so much more chaos besides on the battlefield. This conflict between the three countries has greatly disrupted things like air travel, trade, and much more. Backing off my last posts about Iran and the U.S., I do understand why this is happening since I didn’t see how these two countries were going to complete a deal due to such conflicting pasts. Also, due to the United States history, when they get threatened or attacked, they intend to fight back and since the Middle East is a central area for oil and trade, it won’t take long for this conflict to spread even further. If this war continues, it won’t be beneficial for almost any country since prices will stay high and economic growth will slow.

All countries involved will probably act based on national interests. This means that the U.S. and Israel will probably continue to pressure military action on Iran, hoping they will back down and overall weaken the state of the country. Iran will most likely retaliate by threatening things like trade routes, oil and airfare, hoping to frighten the U.S and Israel and push them away. Businesses and airlines will adjust their flight routes and possibly raise prices if this war doesn’t end soon. Other countries that rely on Middle East supplies will turn to another source, at least for now, until things settle down.

This connects to class because there have been talks about IGOs attempting to calm down the conflict and promote peace talks, most knowingly the United Nations. However, IGOs don’t have full authority to shut down such conflicts, meaning that these powerful states could continue to fight one another since they believe their security is threatened. Also, it connects to the idea of Iran’s autocratic regime and how the U.S. believes that these autocracies can threaten their country. While some want an international treaty to be set in place, both the U.S. and Iran seem to have a realist approach.

Link to article: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/how-us-israeli-war-iran-is-upending-global-business-2026-03-09/ The article explains how the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran is disrupting global businesses and trade.
