This is interesting to me because this isn’t the first time Kyrgyzstan has had problem with religion and government. Despite being known as a majority Muslim country, Kyrgyzstan’s constitution gives equal rights to all citizens and it has secular basis; which is one of the main reasons tensions arise when religion and government are brought up. Though it would be very easy to pass laws that benefit Muslim since there is a large part of the country that is Muslim, it would not be right. In doing that it would be going against the Constitution that has been set up in Kyrgyzstan. It is like if the United States all of a sudden started to pass laws that would benefit Christianity due to the majority of the citizens being Christians. That is unconstitutional since it would infringe on the rights of the other citizens that are not Christians. The same problem will happen in Kyrgyzstan is the legislators decide to not separate religion from the government. So far they have been okay since they rejected that bill but many religious influential people have been really angered by that decision; which is causing many problem since they have just enough influence over the people as the legislators and could cause a split in the country. I do not really see a way to ease tensions but something has to be done soon or Kyrgyzstan can start to be in turmoil like other middle-eastern countries.

In the article Kyrgyzstan: Islam and Secularism Clash Again, it talks about how religion and politics are starting to create controversy.
