The students release comes a day after a separate raid on another school in Nigeria where a gunmen seized more than 300 girls. Kidnappings are typically done for ransom by armed groups whom many of them carry guns and ride motorcycles. Last week, twety-seven students and 15 other members were abducted by an armed gang who stormed the Government Science secondary school. One boy was killed in the process. These past couple attacks have raised concern about rising violence by armed gangs and Islamist insurgents. Popular terrorist group, Boko Haram are the ones who typically carry out the attacks in Nigeria. The attacks have been an ongoing problem for President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a retired general and military ruler. He has faced large amounts of criticism in the recent months because of the attacks.

These attacks on the schools have become a drastic problem within the country. The attacks are increasing and are becoming more and more dangerous as the days go on. The region is forced to take a stand against these bandits who are causing craziness within the region. These attacks are unknown and can happen at any point. This article is important because it shines a light on the popular group Boko Haram and the terror they’re bringing to the region. For the long term effects, President Buhari will have to make difficult decision on how to go forth with stopping these attacks.

From a realist perspective these attacks can be seen as selfish. Boko Haram is going out of their way to hold hostages and kidnap innocent people in return for money and weapons. These attacks are unnecessary and is only going to cause more conflict in the region. It will also cause small proxy wars with the popular group. Without a stop to the kidnappings, they will continue with them until they get what they want. But what will Buhari do in order to ensure peace?

link to article Saturday, a gunmen released 42 people including 27 students who were kidnapped from their boarding school last week in the north-central state of Niger.
