Not only will she be the first female president in Tanzania, she will also become the first female president in East Africa. Samia Hassan Suluhu was also the first female vice president in Tanzania. She was a parliament member for the Makunduchi constituency from 2010 to 15 and has been Minister of State in the Vice-President’s Office for Union Affairs since 2010. Suluhu will propose her possible successor as Vice-President – with the official appointment being confirmed by the National Assembly via votes of no less than fifty per cent of all the Members of Parliament.

This article is super important because it’s another big step for women, especially in underdeveloped countries. Suluhu has also made history by being the first Muslim to be president in Tanzania as well. She is a true inspiration to little girls and women all over the world and especially in Africa. Suluhu demonstrates that women can do anything a man can do. This is another step in the right direction for women’s rights and it shows how far we are starting to come in the world when it comes to women’s rights and allowing women to hold power. I hope that we can keep this progress up.

This relates to international relations because as the world sees more women gaining power there will be more women who will have a say on the global stage. One issue that could arise is Suluhu not being given the time of day because she is a woman. So if Tanzania were to go into crisis and ask for help from other countries they may not take her seriously. Suluhu coming into power could also ruin some relationships with other countries who do not think that women should be in power in general and they could stop diplomatic ties with Tanzania.

Link to article: https://www.africanews.com/2021/03/18/tanzania-to-swear-in-first-female-president-samia-hassan-suhulu/ After the recent death of John Magufuil, Samia Hassan Suluhu is set to become the first female president of Tanzania.
