Since the beginning of this insurgency back in 2017 it has claimed thousands of lives since. At the Summit they noted that there had been good progress since the first deployment of troops back in June but they just needed more troops. This insurgency has brought a multi billion dollar liquefied natural gas project led by France to a halt. Until they had accepted foreign help Mozambique had been losing their fight to this Islamic led insurgency.

This article is important because it is important to know that there are countries working together to stop this islamic state led insurgency. It has obviously been a long lasting problem because it has been going on since 2017 so for the region it means that there has been a long lasting war impact with lots of lives lost including civilian lives. I think that this is happening solely on the fact that islamic states want to show that they have power and the only way they know how to do that is through violence. It is very sad that so many lives are lost due to a careless group of people who think they know what they are doing.

This is related to what we talked about in class because countries are helping other countries out and forming military alliances. Also this islamic group is trying to show their militaristic power by carrying out these attacks. It has also taken a toll on countries’ economies which ultimately affects other countries’ economies because that country might not be able to have economic relations with another country because they simply do not have the funds for it. For example France has lost Multi billion dollars because of this insurgency as it has brought their liquified gas project to a halt.

Link to article: https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/southern-african-bloc-extends-mozambique-troop-deployment-2022-01-12/ After a summit on wednesday Southern African countries agreed to extend their troop deployments in Mozambique to help the Mozambique government fight an insurgency brought by an Islamic state.
