This article covers more covid news as the main pharmaceutical company, Aspen, has came to an agreement with a main vaccine carrier Johnson and Johnson to sell their covid vaccines in not only South Africa, but all fifty five of Africa’s countries. The vaccines will be sold under Aspen’s name. The talks for a deal started back in November that headlined an agreement that would allow Aspen to distribute and sell Johnson and Johnson vaccines under its own name. The agreement will also allow Aspen to distribute any new versions of the vaccine or any adjustments made to it. Aspen can not only distribute it to all fifty five African countries, but any entity supporting Africa’s vaccination plan. This agreement all comes at the same time Johnson and Johnson’s rival Moderna signed a deal with Kenya to build its first mRna facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article is important because it shows more covid vaccination availability in countries where it may not be as abundant. The vaccine is something we as Americans expect to have available at this point and something that a lot of rules in our country revolve around whether you can or can not do something regarding one’s vaccine status. African people may have more freedom and more confidence to do things if the vaccine is distributed to more of the population. However, I’m not sure if there vaccine guidelines are as strict as ours for the things one can and can not do, so I’m not sure if the change would be that drastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relates to what we talk about in class through the topic of geopolitics a little, because Johnson and Johnson is an American company but it is willing to come to a deal to help another continent with their covid struggles. Africa is a country that maybe is not as fortunate as the US when it comes to vaccine abundance and such.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
