Among these include Africans, and while all refugees from Ukraine are accepted by neighboring EU countries, investigative reports have uncovered that African Ukraine residents have been detained in closed facilities. They are being held in long term facilities with very little access to the outside world and resources. This is directly despite of the EU direction to allow third country nationals to be admitted to the EU temporarily on humanitarian grounds. The African union has issued a statement urging government respect of international law and assistance of escaping refugees.

Analysis: The mistreatment and racial profiling of Africans in Ukraine is a injustice. Refugees should not be denied for their race. Also, detaining third country nationals studying and working in Ukraine is directly in violation of the EU protection directive allowing them to be admitted to the EU. No one should be subject to being trapped in a war ravaged country being invaded and struck by war. Many Africans are stranded at the border of Ukraine and its neighboring countries or are stuck inside Ukraine, being rejected from refuge in neighboring countries, which is shameful and inhumane.

Connection to the class: Because this is a international dispute regarding international law and war, it has a lot to do with International relations. How to proceed with civilians struck by war is a common issue that the UN and other international organizations aim to resolve. The current events in Ukraine are extremely important and affect the entire global system.

Summary: Since Russia has invaded Ukraine, more than 4 million people have fleed the country.
