Tinubu claims he won fairly and wants the petitions dismissed. The United States since then has imposed entry restrictions on more Nigerians for undermining the democratic process during the African nation’s 2023 election cycle. The intimidation of voters through threats and physical violence, the manipulation of vote results, and other activity that undermines Nigeria’s democratic process are all to be challenged and discussed in court on May 29th.

I honestly don’t think much will happen due to previous legal challenges from former Nigerian presidential elections haven’t having much success. Though I think the United States did the right thing by imposing visas restrictions for the time being as the U.S supports democracy for Nigeria. So for there to be individuals undermining the democratic election process of 2023 in Nigeria the only reasonable thing to do is to try to eliminate/reduce those individuals hence the restriction. Now the restriction doesn’t apply to all of Nigeria’s people and government, more so just targeted towards those individuals to be suspected with undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

By the U.S restricting people who undermined the democratic process shows their continuous support for the spread of democracy in Nigeria. Due to Nigeria having an ethnic and religious divide in different regions such as the North being Islamic and the South wanting democracy its not likely Nigeria would’ve really done anything because of this spectacle. This represents why the United States is a major world leader as Nigeria most likely wouldn’t even had imposed any restrictions due to their court.

Link: https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/us-imposes-election-related-visa-restrictions-nigerians-2023-05-15/ President-elect Bola Tinubu defeated his rivals Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who have since then accused Tinubu of fraud.
