Attacks on northern and central Mali have been increasing, and extremist groups have been killing people in Mali for many years. To gain support for their military and safety, the Malian government hired the Wagner military group, affiliated with Russia. On Tuesday, some Islamic militants, an al-Qaeda-linked group, attacked a military training camp and airport in Mali’s capital that resulted in some soldiers being killed. This attack was significant because it shows that they are attacking on military targets rather than on civilians, and it shows that they have the ability to do a large-scale attack. They tried to infiltrate the military school, but government troops were able to neutralize it and arrest 15 suspects.

It seems that Mali has been dealing with many attacks like this for a long time, but why does this keep happening, and why in their capital that hasn’t been super involved in this? I think that Al-Qaeda targets Mali because they are allied with these Russian mercenaries, and it happened because they have been attacking each other. Mali wanted these mercenaries for support, not for that to be the reason they are being attacked. This article is really important because this is the first time in years that the capital of Mali has been attacked, and this is another attack on Mali. I think it is crazy that there are so many attacks going on around the world, and I want to know more about why there is so much bad blood between states.

The group that the Malian government has hired is the Wagner group, which is a military group that helps the security of other countries. Therefore, the Wagner group is a military IGO that is helping the Malian government from the war and uprisings in Mali. We have talked about the many different types of IGOs in class, and this is an example of one of them. We have also talked about different groups and the Al-Qaeda would be in the other actors group, falling under a terrorist organization.

link-https://apnews.com/article/mali-explosions-training-camp-attack-472f06bd7d2d9d2913252e9787f276f9# For over a decade, Mali has fought in an insurgency by armed groups, some allied with al-Qaeda and the Islamic state group, who has attacked many other countries including the US.
