Russia’s immediate reaction was to panic and try to get their support back, but the US was staking claim in the Central African Republic. The US hasn’t been present in Africa for a long time, but is trying to maintain their new relationship in order to remove Africa from Russia’s grasp. The area of Africa has contained a lot of anti-American behavior, and now the US is using that in their favor against Russia. Some believe that if the US successfully takes the Central African Republic from Russia, it will affect several more of Russia’s international relationships.

I find this article very important, especially to the countries in Africa that the US is attempting to build allyship with. For Sub-Saharan Africa, this could potentially be their first relationship with the US in several years. Because the US is a global superpower, this could significantly benefit the status and possibly the economy of these parts of Africa. On top of that, they would no longer be allied with a lesser-supported country, but rather have the US and its allies on their side. However, I think this could cause conflict, and potential harm to some of these African countries.

In the future, I expect the US to continue to stick with the Central African Republic, even though Russia is attempting to obtain it again. This could be very influential for both the Central African Republic and the US, but it would most likely cause issues between Russia and the US in the process. Russia will most likely attempt to win Africa over, but I believe that the US has a good chance of being able to grow their relationship with Africa. I think the Central African Republic will want to separate from Russia, especially because the US has been trying to steer them away for a long time.

The tension between Russia, Africa, and the US relates to what we’ve learned in class because of the different levels of power these each have. In class, we have talked a lot about superpowers, what kind of power certain countries have, and why. The US, for example, is a global superpower. It has one of the highest levels of power in the world, and has significantly more influence than most countries. The Central African Republic, however, is much smaller and less influential. Although it may still have a large influence locally and a small influence globally, the US, as well as Russia, have much higher significance.

https://apnews.com/article/central-african-republic-russia-africa-wagner-bancroft-f0b9e7705713768f4676c2588c0e0200 After a Russian mercenary leader went against his country’s military leaders, their African allies asked the US for guidance.
