There I much evidence of Russia wanting to have more influence and involvement in Africa. Earlier this month CNN reports that Russia had started moving equipment out of Syria. With Russia moving this supplies to Libyan they have the capability to pursue more ambitions through out Africa. NATO has also started to keep an eye on the recent actions. There is also talk about how Libyan cannot be a substitute for Syria.

These actions show there will most likely be a higher presence of Russian forces or supplies over the next couple months. Due to Russia’s need for power, there is a high chance the US will get involved. They will most likely try and push Russia out of Libyan. NATO also has a valid reason to be concerned. Russia gaining more influenced in Africa is not good for anyone. Especially if they gain more power. That becomes a security issue that puts many lives in danger.

With the hardship of that are currently going on in Syria, there isn’t much holding Russia in Syria. Russia is still looking for a strong hold in Africa. But that can lead too much disarray for many actors. Russia having influence in Africa gives them more global influence. If they have this influence, they can gain access to more supplies. That being people and items. There is a chance of conflict arising in the future by both the United States and NATO being concerned with Russia’s recent actions.

Over the past weeks in class we have discussed how all states act to get some sort of power. Russia is seeking to find soft power in Africa, with them gaining some kind of influence they can take advantage of the areas around them. This is not good because the United State and NATO do not want Russia gaining more power. The reason Russia needs this is because they are losing more power in areas closer to them. Look at Ukraine, Putin did not expect Ukraine to fight back as much as they are. This also hints at the possible chance that Russia in undermining how people will react the them trying to move into Africa.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/31/middleeast/spike-russian-flights-libya-desert-base-intl/index.html On December 31, 2024 CNN World reported that since Bashar al-Assad was forced out of his Syrian leader role, Russia has started being more present in the Libyan desert.
