This in turn reduced funding for critical programs that address hunger, health, and education in needy regions of the world. Africa has been one of the regions to benefit the most from the US’s aid. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief have both greatly impacted the continent. Nonprofits have been raising their concerns about possible setbacks this financial freeze may cause. Along with the freeze Trump has also issued an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization, giving them a 12 month notice. Most healthcare programs in African States such as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa are funded by the US. The future of healthcare there now remains uncertain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This issue brings up a case against off shore balancing. As we have talked about in class, is it our duty to protect and care for the rest of the world, or do we need to start worrying more about ourselves and choose only to meddle in the foreign affairs that effect us and our security. If Africa is somewhere we no longer deem important enough to stay active in, the effects may be catastrophic to the continent. Or another hegemon, such as China, may fill the void we are begining to leave behind in that region. For recent history the US has been concerned in all affairs, and helping the good of the people. However with that perspective now shifting we may be leaving the rest of the world in tough positions, and it may not look as pretty without us. But once again is that something we should feel concerned about?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Link to article: https:\/\/allafrica.com\/view\/group\/main\/main\/id\/00091735.html On January 20, 2025 US president, Donald Trump, and his administration issued an executive order to freeze foreign aid for 90 days.
