This move by the Trump administration has left many countries reliant of USAID in a rough spot. Specific to this article however it regards the stoppage of American drugs being distributed in some of these countries like Kenya. Specifically HIV treatments that many in Kenya are reliant on and require to live. This freeze has impacted many and can be viewed as a waist. Millions of doses have been stranded in warehouses forcing clinics like the one in Nairobi where Alice Okwirry receive treatment to ration supplies.

From an international point of view this is burning bridges for relative no gain. The gain in the American populous that this may give trump should not be worth the lives of millions that US aid is directly responsible for saving. This has damaged global health efforts beyond Kenya. Many governments and health organizations have started to fill the gap left by a lack of USAID and this is not a good thing for the US to keep its image as the world leader in health. It also stops a lot of soft power reaching parts of the world that may find help in other countries like China, India, or Russia. From the Kenyans point of view this is a national crisis that is in desperate need of being filled by other countries that are able to provide these necessary medicines.

This relates to the international liberalist view that we have been discussing in class. The use of soft power and international law to benefit everyone is great until someone like the US decides to not play by the rules set and decides to do its own thing. The pulling of USAID without consulting other countries to see what is the least damaging way this could happen could have large ramifications in international trust and could be seen as the US shedding its leadership role in these IGOs.

Article Link This article continues the saga regarding the freeze on USAID.
