Bozell has been accused of being racist towards non white South Africans. The democrats and people have quoted Bozell saying, “I come before you at a challenging moment for U.S.-South Africa relations” This quote has made many South Africans feel like he’s being elitist and having a superior dialect towards the people and thinking that he is better then people. He was also quoted with saying that he wants to do whatever Trump tells him to do which makes the South Africans uncomfortable.

I think that this reaction from the South African people is justified because no one wants some elitist coming into your country acting like he’s better than you just because he’s from what they claim to be a superior country. Also, the obvious racism is not a good look for him as a person that’s supposed to be making relations.

If I were President Trump I would get Bozell out of there because South Africa would be a huge ally for Trumps national interest because of their current involvement in the sanctioning of Israel and if they can sway South Africa into ending their sanctions that would go in Trumps interest. If I were the people and leaders of South Africa I would complain until a change is made but other than that there’s not much more that you can do just because of Americas sheer power.

This article relates to class because Americas response to this situation will most likely be to use soft power to make America more attractive to the South African people by switching ambassadors to show that America is willing to do their will. Another in class term that can be applied is national interest for both sides because both actors should realistically have the same national interest for how to handle this situation.

Link to article: https://allafrica.com/view/group/main/main/id/00094531.html President Trumps decided ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell, has been experiencing major backlash from the democratic party because of his decisions in South Africa.
