Mexico files lawsuits against US gun manufacturers

The country of Mexico has been filing ongoing complaints and lawsuits against US gun manufacturers as a result of increased gun violence & homicides within their borders. They believe that several US gun manufacturing companies are the reason dangerous gangs and drug cartels are in possession of military grade guns. For the most part, a majority of these gun companies in question are stationed in the state of Arizona. Within each lawsuit, the country of Mexico asks the US to monitor sales and promote different programs that stop illegal trade and traffic of guns. Nonetheless, due to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (an act that releases all responsibility from gun manufacturers and protects them from  repercussions of unlawful actions), Mexico has been unable to fully reach their goals in regards to winning any cases.

The relationship between the US and Mexico gun sales over the last two decades has been complicated. In the year 2019, 17,000 homicides in Mexico were linked to arms trafficking between them and the US. This movement of Mexico attempting to blockade the sale and transport of guns into their country is all in hopes of restoring their general welfare and overall safety. However, without cooperation or acknowledgement of responsibility from the US, that has left Mexico in an unsettling place of violence. The impact this leaves on the region is critical to how the southern border of the US & Mexico regulate guns.

This relates back to class because it is an event/ongoing issue that can be analyzed through a domestic/state level style of analysis and how that can also impact a region (interstate/regional analysis).
