Simulation Reflection
In our simulation, my role essentially was a resolution builder/informal negotiator. It was I who initially suggested to the others that we should look to the neighboring countries for aid in this migrant crisis. Overall, I felt our group was well prepared, we had a strong opening statement, and in the end we acquired a resolution that we were more than comfortable with. I really enjoyed this simulation, it was fun and it was a great experience. I specifically enjoyed the fact that we (the country of Budan) were essentially against the world, and we still managed to get what we wanted against all odds. It was immensely satisfying to put in that much effort to negotiate with other countries and have it all pay off in the end. I’d say I struggled the most with suggesting ideas in the larger informal negotiation groups, they were somewhat out of control and I would’ve had to shout for my ideas to have been heard. What could be changed is something I have suggested in class already; and that is to either remove the neighboring countries or add representatives to those countries. I almost felt that the simulation ended up being too easy because we kind of used those countries as a median to resolve this issue, when realistically they would’ve been up in arms about our resolution. In the end, I learned how complicated negotiating with other countries/groups are; especially when they’re all acting in their own self-interests.
