Uruguay was the first country to legalize marijuana for recreational or medical purposes in its region. I believe this was a smart move for Uruguay because they have started to generate a large amount of revenue. The initial investment of Simbiosys, a company made for growing and selling of marijuana, was $ 1.7 million. That is 56 million Uruguayan pesos and ten percent goes to the state. Â Assuming this number increases over the next few decades Uruguay will be in good shape. Not only does this product help people in pain or under stress, but it raises money for the government and pharmaceutical companies. I believe this is a win win for the Uruguayan government and their people.
Not only has the use of recreational marijuana been legalized, helped the sick, and give money to the government, but it has helped clear 12,000 drug dealers from the illegal market. By somewhat legalizing marijuana Uruguay they are making the streets safer by taking out dangerous people. Not only has it taken out dangerous people, but the companies that legally sell marijuana sell it per gram, four times less than what a drug dealer would. So the citizens of Uruguay are getting medicine safely and cheaper than what they would if marijuana was still illegal.
A third argument in the benefit of legalization, is the creation of jobs. 7,000 people have registered, who can now grow and harvest up to 480 grams per year. Cannabis clubs can have a maximum of 45 members and harvest up to 40 grams per month. More people are able to grow and sell marijuana now, and it is actual legal. This boosts the economy because now more people are growing, selling, and buying a new high demand product. In the end this actually brings people together and ultimately creates economic wealth, peace within citizens, and cures the ill.
