One of the articles I read was about the safety of women in Latin American countries. They get catcalled, yelled names, or even abused physically and robbed. It’s extremely unsafe to walk around alone as a female in these countries. I hate how this problem exists for women, but also for men. The fact that anyone can downgrade another human so much and are not even acknowledging that they are an actual person with feelings and emotions is sickening. In the report I read, it said that not only sexual harassment is extremely dangerous for women, but it also stated that 77% of people say that it is constantly happening in public. These women that fall victims almost never get help. 60% said that this harassment is never reported. It’s scary that women aren’t reporting this abuse. It could mean that they don’t think it was a big of enough deal to report or that they will accept what had just happened to them. In the article, it stated that Lima, Peru was the most dangerous city for women. This is such a disgrace because people are trying to live about their daily lives while being haunted and threatened. Women feel unsafe taking public transportation, or even walking down the street. They can’t leave their house without thinking something bad might happen to them. Reading about Peru makes me scared and not want to travel to that part of the world if it meant risking my safety.

In Mexico, the ban on marijuana has been lifted. People are now legally allowed the use of recreational marijuana. This is going to give the country a big economic boost and supply more jobs to the citizens. Now the United State’s neighbours from the north and south have legalized marijuana, I’m wondering if it’s going to place more pressure on the US to do so as well. It’s going to be interesting to see what will happen in Mexico and how it affects the country.
