In Brazil, the newly elected president, Jair Bolsonaro has made comments about china and trade between the two countries. The first remark was made on monday stating that he sees a future with china and believes that their trade will grow. Later, in an interview, Bolsonaro said things going against his original comment. He made china seem like a predator and that they wanted to dominate brazil’s economy. Chinese Diplomats have requested for Bolsonaro to visit china. Another issue involving Bolsonaro is the threat to cut ties with cuba. Bolsonaro believes there is no point in having diplomatic relations with cuba because of the ignored human rights and the little business able to be done with this communist-run island. Bolsonaro criticized a Cuban doctors program working in poor and remote parts of brazil. The doctors that have children that are not allowed to bring them with them into brazil. 75 percent of the doctors salaries goes to the cuban government and because of this, Bolsonaro says “Can we maintain diplomatic relations with a country that treats people this way?” Bolsonaro said this program could continue as long as they were allowed to bring their kids with them. One more thing Bolsonaro has talked about is having closer relations with the United States and has planned to follow the lead of donald trump with moving brazil’s embassy into jerusalem and israel. One final thing involving Bolsonaro is the recent promise he made to look into the state-run national bank by opening its “black box” in search of corruption and secret transactions. “I will begin my mandate determined to open the black box of the BNDES and reveal to the Brazilian people what was done with their money”. “Until today, there has been no evidence that could link BNDES employees to any corruption scheme,” it said. A BNDES official told Reuters that the bank’s operations where open and transparent and had nothing to hide.
