Over the past two weeks, things between the outside world and Venezuela have really been heating up. With more trade restrictions being brought on them, and them refusing outside aid, the country is descending deeper and deeper into chaos. The problem is that Maduro is losing power and his grip on his country, and he knows it. This is causing him to take irrational steps that are not in favor of his own people, but only an attempt to keep himself in the position of power.
His first big mistake is rejecting the outside aid from entering the country. He is so paranoid about losing his power that he believes that accepting the aid into the country would open for a US invasion of the country, forcing him out of power. The thing is that if his people do not get that aid, they will likely be the ones forcing him out of power because they have nothing to eat, nothing to drink, no access to medication. They do not have access to the necessities of human life, and when that happens in chaotic countries is when you see dictatorships or even democracies toppled by the people, rather than outside forces. I don’t see why they don’t just accept the aid and bring it in themselves. What are they afraid of? Do they think that there will be arms and ammunition in the medical crates to arm the civilians against the pro-Maduro military? It just doesn’t make sense to me. The only people that they would be worried about in the first place would be the United States, but they won’t get themselves directly involved because they don’t want the bad press of getting their hands in other countries governments. Maduro can be sure that there won’t be anything done by any of the European Union countries because the EU released a statement that they do not think anyone should get involved. They are advising against anyone else entering the country to force them out, saying that if Venezuela wants change to happen, then they can make it happen then.
