Mexico discourages Venezuelans from forming caravans to cross into US

Under a new scheme from the US, 24,000  Venezulaans will be given the chance to gain humanitarian access via aircraft as long as they file applications and have a US sponsor before reaching the border. Mexico officials publicly denounced the forming of caravans if hoping to cross the border into the US. This plan was established in hopes of decreasing the amount of illegal venezualian crossings into the US and expelling those who may try. If caught trying to illegally cross the Mexico-US border, US officials have power to turn migrants back to Mexico and migrants will lose eligibility to enter the US (on what conditions, terms, or duration of time go unsaid).

This plan is a step in the right direction to decrease illegal crossing of migrants into the US and positive opportunity for those looking to come to the US. I believe that this will also create a smoother transition for specifically Venezualan migrants to come to the US as well. After attempting to limit illegal border crossing in the past, I believe this plan may be the most successful because it offers aid and help to migrants before turning them around. Plus, it holds migrants accountable for their intentions of wanting to enter the US.  I believe the US doing this will provide some sort of control and regulation in regards to immigration to the country. As well as partnering with Mexico to fully execute this plan will hopefully help improve border security and relations between both countries.

This relates back to class because it covers the idea of relations between states and the partnership in a common good (collective goods problem). In this case, it examines immigration and how that will impact everyone involved.
