On April 6th, it was reported that over 50 countries were willing to have tariff talks with the President. Everyone and their mother has a problem with the tariffs. From everyday citizens worried about having to carry the burden of the tariffs to Elon Musk, who holds a lot of property overseas, many people are concerned about the short-term effects of the tariffs and just how long that short-term will be. The Trump team is trying to focus on the long-term impact of the tariffs, which they expect to be positive. But the stock market’s variability is causing everyone to panic.

This article is very much against the tariffs and understandably so. The many references to the Stock Market show a concern that there could be a recession at best and a depression at worst. 62% of Americans have money invested in the market, if the Market completely tanks and enough people panic a depressions is a possibility. It also doesn’t help that countries are starting to cash bonds putting another strain on the already tense economy. There is also the concern of the impediment to the free market that the US has prided itself on for the last 70 years. Tariffs are protectionary and incentivize company’s to produce in America as it sunder becomes less expense I’ve than trying to export import. But this also stops companies from exploiting the lack of workers protection that exits in the US, but don’t always exist over seas.

It is in Americas best interest to negotiate the tariffs when and where we can. And who knows, maybe a deal can be reached that benefits both countries. But with our adversaries, things wont be so easy. Trade wars are inevitable know Trumps personality. Which Economies can survive a trade war is yet to be seen.
