This article discussed that Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro is preparing to declare a state of emergency due to the increasing tension with the United States. Over the deployment of American warships to the Caribbean. Maduro states that his action is to protect Venezuela from possible and potential military attacks by the US. The article also discusses Maduro because the US military increase is aimed at regime changes, despite the US claiming it is to combat drug trafficking. This declaration of state emergency would grant maduro special powers, including mobilizing the military and controlling key sectors. Venezuela has responded by conducting military drills and mobilizing its militia members. Venezuela states that it does not want war but is not stopping its preparation to defend itself.
This article is stating that Venezuela is ready to declare a state of energy, if seen necessary. This declaration would be due to the increasing US military presence, said to be there to combat drug tracking, and their increasing tensions. This is important because tensions ,if a “state of emergency”is declared, will only continue to worsen because the United States will most likely not slow or stop their combat towards drug trafficking efforts. This will increase regional unrest and could result in a military conflict or war. However, Venezuela has already stated that they do not want war and are just preparing for possible future conflicts and are just defending themselves.
The united states has responding to this possible declaration of state of emergency by saying that the us military is there only to help with combatting drug and narcotic trafficking Venezuela has stated before declared this possible state of emergency because of the growing us military presence and their belief that the United’s military presence goes beyond the drug trafficking issue and is also related to a regime change.
This is connected to what we have learned in class because it is dealing with foundation concepts, including state sovereignty, international law, and the complex interactions of security, human rights, and economic dependencies.
