The article talks about how the swift raid conducted by the US on Jan. 3 of 2026. More importantly it talks about the message it sent to the nations around the world, ‘from Iran to Greenland’. The theory proposed is that these moves are a clear sign of President Trump’s desire for global hegemony via the annexation or regime change for nations causing hindrances to American foreign policy. This is largely shown after Trump stated “Help is on it’s way.” in a twitter post in reference to the Iranian protests against the current regime. In addition, President Trump’s actions in Venezuela in regards to the Democratic opposition shows that although the front of the actions are liberty, its more likely that these actions were carried out in the name of control. This presents the question, is US help really help and if so how could the US help. In reality the Iranian regime will not fall in a night with a swift action like in Venezuela, so how much will the American airstrikes really help? These same questions although altered are brought up in relation to Cuba who is facing the pressure of their oil supply being cut off.

I think that the article brings up an interesting take in that although Trump may say that these actions are for the liberty of ‘oppressed nations’ how much of that is true and how much of that is just a ploy to be able to say that those who don’t support the current actions of the administration are against liberty. The article is right in my opinion when they say that the actions of the President resemble those of someone who wants hemispheric dominance, however I don’t think that this is an immoral thing for the US to want, if Venezuela had the power to take out Trump I think there’s an argument to say that they would.

The US will most likely not go full on war with Iran but will go in with less risky options, like the bombing of strategic sites and the funding/support of groups that oppose the current regime. The Iranians will, if anything, try do something in their proximity that would put pressure on the US to break, like a proposed increased trade deal with China, or if they go military maybe the ‘donation’ of longer range missiles to their proxies.

I can definitely see the connection to sovereignty in this, I think it is the center of the issue. The world is upset that the US broke the sovereignty of Venezuela but on the other hand there is an argument to be made that Maduro was helping to infringe on the sovereignty of the US via the drug smuggling.
