These rankings are supported by the constant threats journalists receive for telling stories through writing and broadcasting. Many journalists live in fear as they have been victims of suspicious phone calls, threats of sexual assault and death threats. Dina Meza has faced these threats and other forms of intimidation in Honduras and she even left the country in 2013 to find safe haven. Now Meza works with two international human rights observers to ensure her safety and protection as she works as in journalist in the country’s capital of Tegucigalpa. The cause for the hatred against journalists is sparked from the 2009 military coup in which former president Manuel Zelaya was removed from office. Between 2006 and 2017, 62 Honduran journalists have been killed and during this period, human rights and environmental protection advocates have been killed as well. These statistics about freedom of the press in the Americas are rivaled by Mexico, where 165 journalists were killed during 2006-2017.

It is alarming to see journalism in a country driven by fear. Citizens of the United States often underestimate the power of freedom of the press and it may even by the most important of the First Amendment rights. Freedom of the Press has caused recent world outrage as India has also been faced with problems as well. It is also interesting to see how journalists have adapted to the use of technology in news. The Internet makes it so much easier for information to easily be spread, but then there is also the issue of censorship in a majority of countries. Censorship and press are some of the most controversial topics in our era of technology and Internet.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/05/honduran-journalists-face-increasing-threats-intimidation-180503112711060.html Honduras is ranked 141 of 180 countries as the most dangerous for journalists.
