Some have split off in Mexico to seek asylum there, but most have continued in hopes of having a better life in the U.S. From reading many articles on the group, and the types of things these migrants are fleeing, I don’t understand how so many of their cases for asylum are being rejected. Legally, the U.S has to hear their cases, and many of the judges have rejected them. The fact that these people (mostly women and children) are seeking a peaceful life doesn’t seem to be enough. What could we as a country possibly lose by allowing asylum seekers into our country? How could we not support them?

Gabriella Hernandez, a pregnant woman with two sons, has been traveling with the caravan. She has turned herself in at the border as an asylum seeker and is being held in government detention, waiting for judges to hear her case. Yet, this is the happiest she has been in weeks. Even with her family’s future so uncertain, she still has hope for a life in America. I think many Americans, take our lives here for granted. America is a place that many people can only dream of living in. We have never been in the position of having to flee from violence or corruption and then face an uncertain future. Why would it be such a bad idea for us to share? Why can’t we give this caravan a chance here?

After the long journey from Honduras, the migrant group has finally reached the U.S border.
