While the 2nd place rival candidate appears to be surging lately to close the gap, left-sided Mexican candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador has maintained a steady projected-lead. The poll was taken following April 22nd, when the first televised presidential debate took place. Lopez Obrador’s closest competition appears to be Ricardo Anaya, the right-left candidate whose percent is second-ranked with 30 percent of the vote, a four percent increase from the previous poll. José Antonio Meade is the third place candidate, whom represents the Institutional Revolutionary Party. Meade has seen a decline in support by one point to 17 percent, the poll showed. López Obrador received 48 percent support, meaning while the deficit may be shrinking, he still has a comfortable lead over the other candidates. The tightening of this race is good for the nation of Mexico because competition is known to bring out the best or worst of candidates and people as a whole, so the gap shrinking may be the healthy push Lopez Obrador needs to be successful. The election process is heating up prior to the July 1st deadline, and it will only get hotter from here.

As Mexico’s July 1st presidential election day comes closer and closer, the race appears to be getting tighter and tighter.
